Myofascial dry needling (MDN) is an advanced technique for treating muscle, tendon and ligament pain by directly targeting points of tension. At Kinatex Sports Physio, our expert physiotherapists use this method to effectively relieve pain and promote rapid recovery.
At your first session, we’ll assess your goals and determine if you’re a good candidate for MDN. Your physiotherapist will collect measurements to monitor treatment effectiveness and check for contraindications, such as pregnancy or vascular problems.
Treatment may reproduce the initial pain, confirming that the target has been reached. You may also feel muscle twitching, pressure, numbness or cold, which is normal. These sensations are usually followed by relief, although temporary soreness may occur up to 48 hours after the session.
MDN is rarely used on its own. It is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes exercises, advice and manual therapy techniques. This approach aims to reduce local inflammation and help you regain optimal function.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more about MDN, make an appointment with our physiotherapists at Kinatex.
