What is Acupuncture & Anxiety Management?

Through its effect on the central nervous system, acupuncture regulates the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. During treatment, endorphins are released, and the hormones involved in stress become regulated. It is interesting to note that acupuncture studies do not register any noticeable side effects. Whether you are taking medication or undergoing therapy, nothing prevents you from using acupuncture.

How can acupuncture help you manage your anxiety?

During your first session, the acupuncturist will ask you about your general state of health and the manifestations of anxiety, will take your pulse and with the gathered information will be able to prepare a treatment plan tailored to you.

The acupuncturist will then insert exceptionally fine needles into different parts of the body which will be left in place for 20 to 30 minutes.

Of course, a healthy lifestyle helps to reduce anxiety:

  • Exercise on a regular basis.
  • Eating well.
  • Avoid consuming too many stimulants (coffee, tea, soft or energy drinks, chocolate).
  • Have a good sleep routine.
  • Meditate, or practise mindfulnes.

But sometimes, in spite of our good intentions, we are unable to cope with all this stress causing certain physical signs appear:

  • Sleep disturbances.
  • More frequent headaches.
  • Digestive disorders.
  • Difficulties in concentrating.
  • Chest tightness.
  • Severe pain and muscle tension

If you feel that you can no longer cope, do not hesitate to seek help.
